Maybe the holidays ARE good for scouting out deals, after all!
Chiavari Brass Chair
A single Chiavari solid brass chair, probably midcentury Italian. These chairs have a long history. First designed in 1807 by Giuseppe Gaetano Descalzi in the coastal town of Chiavari, Italy as a stackable ballroom chair, their contemporary lightweight wooden cousins (which are far cheaper to manufacture than the brass examples) now make the rounds at weddings, events and meeting rooms worldwide. Easily reupholstered.
Outremont. Asking $75. APPEAL
Vintage brass Chiavari chairs are a popular pick with some of today’s top designers, even in their own homes. Get inspired below!

Love the chair but how can I purchase? Can I purchase through your website?
The “Chiavari Brass Chair” link in the post will bring you to LesPac.com, where the seller’s listing it for sale – I have no affiliation with them. Here’s the direct link again: http://www.lespac.com/ameublement/arts-antiquites/outremont/d-chaise-laiton-LPaZZ26812338WWcpZZ12WWgrZZ1 Thanks for reading, Elaine, and hope you get it – it’s a design classic!

Cool pic with the Obamas!
Thanks – loved that shot! Makes me rethink deep yellow as a possible dining room colour in a future house…
another great post! I’m with Gayle.
Thanks Chris – means a lot!
You know what’s truly uncanny? The pierced ceramic lamp in the Martha Stewart photo was for sale on Toronto craigslist last month. Someone could have had it all!
If I ever spot that Chippendale fretwork desk a la Martha on Craigslist, I just might keel over! But you know, a high/low feature might be fun one day, recreating a mag spread with classifieds finds.
That’s a good idea! And I wanted to show you, I found the listing. BAM: http://toronto.en.craigslist.ca/tor/fuo/3479377859.html
I’m a bit of a lighting buff, and Montreal’s classifieds never seem to have any cool fixtures, Claire – good find! Those blanc de chine pierced lamp bases were crazy trendy and all over Domino mag a few years ago, and selling like hotcakes. It’s amazing how quickly the cycle’s moving from “in” to “out” to see it popping up on CL now. Along with all the zebra hides and ghost chairs. Betcha there’ll be a lot of Moroccan Beni Ouarain rugs in our future…
I agree, your blog is great.
Thanks Shelly! I still get weird looks when I try to explain what the blog’s about to non-furniture-obsessives, so it’s always good to see I’ve struck a chord with some readers
Thanks for the support!
