I’m angling after a large convex mirror, and sadly this first entry missed the mark – too much Restoration Hardware, not enough Regency. But while I wait for my gesso gilt beauty, here’s hoping these vintage furniture picks from Craigslist and Kijiji Montreal strike home with you!
Convex Wood Framed Mirror
Large convex mirror (also known as a fisheye, bullseye or bull’s eye.) Framed in wood, 23″ in diameter.
Montreal. Asking $200. APPEAL
Midcentury Italian Bookshelves
Interesting pair of midcentury bookshelves in a blond wood finish, with ribbon marquetry detail and butterfly shape. From the fifties. Original brass label: seller spells it “Victorio” but bet it’s “Vittorio Lombardi, Milano.” It’s a decent label – some of Giò Ponti‘s designs were produced by Vittorio Lombardi – but unless you can research this piece further, I think the seller’s ask is quite high.
Montreal. Asking $1000. FOR REAL?
Vintage Barrel Chair
Older barrel back caned chair, with sabre legs and brass ball arm finials. Worth reupholstering!
Mascouche. Asking $45. DEAL
Vintage End Tables
Cute five drawer end tables or nightstands with nickle pulls, painted a robin’s egg blue. Circa 1957. Plus a free pair of lamps.
Montreal. Asking $60. DEAL
Empire Style Chest of Drawers
Antique three drawer chest with Empire lines, topped with black marble. Seller claims it was purchased from a dealer for $2500, and has 17thC Scandinavian provenance: I think it looks 19thC. Has “slight damage.”
Montreal. Asking $250. APPEAL/DEAL (hinges on condition)
Reading Armchair
Oversized beige check armchair with matching ottoman.
Montreal. Asking $80. DEAL
Industrial Cart Coffee Table
Vintage printer’s rolling cart, to repurpose as a coffee table.

Good evening, interesting finds, agree the mirror too much Restoration Hardware…Gayle of LOVE my gold aerosol can
Thanks Gayle! I have a weakness for gold leaf anything… One product I’ve been loving is Krylon’s 18K gold leaf pen, really great for touch ups!
Gorgeous Art Deco buffet!
I inquired after the coffee table, the seller can’t deliver (and I don’t drive).
The Lombardi shelves are interesting, I wonder if the seller will even manage to get $500 for them.
Too bad about the coffee table, Maria: just means another better will come along! And the more I look at Art Deco pieces, the more I consider changing up my current style
I can see those Lombardi shelves being a “fall in love” kind of piece for the right buyer, they’ve got a striking design… but at $1000? You’re right, that’s dealer territory, not Kijiji.
The buffet looks pretty cool but a bit expensive, below 400 or below would be nice…
I know, that Art Deco buffet made the blog cut based on its looks, not it’s price.
But to be fair, most people listing on Kijiji or Craigslist have no idea what going rates for furniture are – it’s why we find incredible deals. And the reverse is true – owners listing items too high. Dining room furniture is the worst. Owners frequently value their sets in the thousands, but there’s so little demand these days and such a glut of choice, it’s unlikely they’ll sell.
But if it’s a good piece, it never hurts to make a best offer and see where it gets you. I’ve sometimes had sellers drastically slash their price after a few months with no nibbles, and landed a decent piece, simply by being one of the first people to express an interest…
Who knows, maybe $400 will be the sweet spot for that buffet!
