Hi Jennifer, the flokati is a deal, even at $300; a new flokati that size would retail for about $1,800. The cream flokati in the linked post was dingy when I bought it having been neglected in a dank basement. But one trip to the laundromat and a good soak with Oxy in a triple loader and that rug was as white as snow. Yes, I probably shrank it a little but the way flokatis are made means they actually resist shrinkage. Just don’t machine dry them for more a couple of minutes, I always hang mine to dry.

I didn’t think it was that easily washable!!! I read that post on styleNorth back in the day, I should have clued in. Thanks Chris – will edit the entry
The flokati would not fit in the washer at the laundromat. Unless you go to an industrial laundromat. Better to just lay it out in the driveway during summer and just wash it with a clean brush broom and let it dry naturally.
I’m actually planning on doing just that, Jon, with two 9 x 12′ wool rugs this summer, instead of sending them out. It’s essentially the immersion soak rug cleaners use anyways. Lay them on the back deck, drench with the hose, work in a weak Woolite solution, rinse, squeegee and block out the edges to dry. Neither are particularly precious. If you’ve got something “good” and try the DIY clean route, go easy on the scrubbing!
You’re right, I believe Chris used an industrial sized washer for his flokati. People – don’t go breaking your washing machines!
Can’t resist a pun, and may have pushed it with the one-night-stand quip. Glad I wasn’t banished to your spambox
